English: Prachum Pakaranam ("Collection of Tales") is a book series in which ancient Thai tales of foreign origin are compiled, published by the Wachirayan Royal Library. The present volume consists of the following:
Paksipakaranam ("Birds' Tales") – A group of tales found in the manuscript obtained from a royal library within the Grand Palace. Prince Damrong Rachanuphap believed that the manuscript must have been in that library since the reign of King Rama I of Bangkok at least. After examination, he found that some of these tales were from the Hindu scripture Pañcatantra, and some were from the Buddhist Jātaka; but their author(s), date of creation, etc, could not be ascertained. These tales were first printed in the year 2412 BE (1869/70 CE) at the behest of Prince Aksonsasanasophon of Siam, chief of the Department of Royal Scribes and director of the Royal Printer.
